Mil Reis Grande Reserva Tinto 2019

€400.00

Five Generations of Legacy and Bold Winemaking.

Nestled at the foot of the Serra D’Ossa, just 35 km north of Évora, Herdade da Maroteira spans 540 hectares of Alentejo’s rugged beauty. In the same Anglo-Portuguese family since the 19th century — five generations and counting — this estate is a living testament to tradition, vision, and reinvention.

It all began when Robert Reynolds saw potential in the Alentejo’s cork oak forests, investing in the estate to meet the growing needs of the Port wine industry in northern Portugal. For over 150 years, the land thrived through cork production, cattle raising, and olive cultivation.

A new chapter began in 2000, when current owner Philip Mollet planted the estate’s first vineyards. Betting on Syrah, he struck gold — the result was Cem Reis, a bold red that quickly earned international acclaim.

Soon after, the estate’s portfolio expanded to include a captivating range of reds, whites, and rosés made from Alicante Bouschet, Aragonêz, and Touriga Nacional — each one expressing the wild elegance of the Alentejo.

Among them stands the Mil Reis, a powerful and expressive red wine. It shows a deep violet colour and a bold, aromatic nose filled with ripe black fruit, fresh mint, and warm toasted notes from oak aging. On the palate, it’s round and generous, with firm structure and impressive persistence — a wine that leaves a lasting impression.
